Designed for investment professionals who are involved in, or interested in becoming involved in, venture capital transactions. 

This half-day programme is designed to provide an understanding of current market practice, deal terms and conditions, and transaction documents in the venture capital business, as well as the essentials of venture capital. From examining the anatomy of a venture capital deal, to exploring key issues in follow-on financing rounds, exit strategies and securities law compliance, the day will cover the legal and business issues you need to master to participate in today’s venture capital environment successfully. You will also learn about the latest financing trends and regional differences in deal practice.

Mark Kenderdine-Davies, Chief Legal Officer, British International Investment

Jen is a Tech M&A partner, global Co-head of the firm’s TMT sector and the Co-Head of Clifford Chance's Africa Group. She is sought out globally by leading players across the technology value chain on their most strategic and transformational projects. Her experience spans cross-border M&A, strategic joint ventures, commercial partnerships, and growth equity.

She is ranked in Mergerlinks as a top deal maker in EMEA in 2023 and 3rd Female M&A lawyer by deal value. 

Mark is the Chief Legal Officer of British International Investment plc (BII), the UK’s development finance institution, overseeing the company’s legal and tax affairs while leading a team of 30 professionals. 

Mark has had a long career in financial services, focused on asset management, development finance and private capital investment. 

He holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of Liverpool, an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. 

Mark chairs the Global Private Capital Association's Legal and Regulatory Council and co-chairs the African Private Capital Association's Legal and Regulatory Committee. He also serves on the UK Regional Board of the Global Alliance of Impact Lawyers and the Executive Committee of the Vietnam-UK Network. 

Hudson is a Senior Associate at Clifford Chance. He is part of the Tech M&A team and works closely with clients on all types of cross-border M&A, equity and debt financings (including VC and growth equity investments), capital markets and other strategic deals in the constantly evolving technology, life sciences, media and telecommunications sectors. 

 

Dominic Rebelo is a Partner at ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna, where he heads the firm’s Corporate & Commercial Department and oversees its private equity practice.  

He has broad experience in private equity and venture capital, advising a range of local, pan-African, and international funds, as well as development institutions, on their direct investments and consortium deals. 

Dominic was named Commercial Practitioner of the Year 2025 and overall Lawyer of the Year 2025 by the Nairobi Legal Awards. He is ranked as a leading lawyer by Chambers Global and Legal 500 and is ‘highly regarded’ by IFLR1000 in their Financial and Corporate category. 

Dominic is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the Law Society of Kenya. He holds an LL.B and a BSc (Joint Hons) in Philosophy and Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, England. 

 

 

Charlotte Patrick-Patel is a Senior Associate at ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna, principally advising on mergers and acquisitions, corporate and commercial law, corporate governance, capital markets, private equity, and data protection, to various clients, including Amsons Group, AfricInvest and Helios Investment Partners.
